By 12th March 2015October 15th, 2016Day Trips, Short Breaks

As soon as spring hits the UK, we all start thinking about the hot summer days to come. Now the sun is shining, you might have spent a bit of time day-dreaming about soaking up the rays and topping up your tan. If you happen to live in London, you’re lucky enough to live a short coach ride from some of Britain’s most beautiful beaches, so now’s a perfect time to choose where to explore over summer.

Spoilt for choice

When you’re in central London, it’s easy to forget that you’re within easy reach of the seaside. London’s very close to an assortment of award winning beaches which we regularly take passengers to on day trips.

Taking a coach is a brilliant way of taking a day out of your routine to visit somewhere new. You don’t need a nominated driver, so the whole party can eat, sleep and drink as much as they like. You can travel alone, in a couple or as part of a larger group. Not only will you save on fuel by not having to take several cars, but you’ll contribute less to congestion, since you’re all travelling together.

The days of stuffy, unpleasant coach travel are thankfully far behind us. Mayday Travel offers luxury vehicles, refreshments, restrooms and seatbelts on practically every trip.

Which beach is best?

There are many beaches to choose from in the South of England, and we run frequent trips to many of the most popular. Here are just a few ideas:

Broadstairs – would you like to lie on golden sand, try your hand at surfing or just spend the day chilling with the family?  If so, Broadstairs is perfect. Even Charles Dickens used to holiday there, down in Viking Bay.

Camber Sands – here you have over five miles of beautiful beaches and sand dunes.  Soak up the sea and sand or try out kite surfing. Camber Sands has also played host to music festivals over the last decade, so there really is something for everyone.

Littlehampton – get the kids running off some energy on the Blue Flag beach, wander in the nature reserve or go fishing.  Alternatively, if you just want to sit in the sun and eat fish and chips, you will find plenty of opportunities to indulge.

Shoeburyness – two Blue Flag beaches give a mix of pebbles and sand. There’s plenty to do and see, and the more energetic members of the party can try out jet skiing or even wind surfing.

Clacton on Sea – saunter down the pier and watch the fisherman, go out on a pleasure cruise on one of the famous Steamers, visit the SeaQuarium or just relax in the plentiful sun.

There are of course many other destinations close by:  Walpole Bay, Bournemouth, Sunny Sands Beach and even the glorious beaches at Southend on Sea.
