When planning your next group outing, why not try one of the UK’s top ice rinks? It’s a great way to forget about life for an hour or two while having some of the best fun you’ve had in ages. Here are some venues to consider.

Winter Ice Skating

One of the best times to go skating is in the build-up to the festive season, and it’s a really good choice for groups if you’re organising a Christmas get together. These seasonal venues are usually temporary outdoor ice rinks, so visit while you can. Some of the most magical places to visit are located in the South. This includes rinks located at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion, the North Pole festival at Parker’s Piece Park in Cambridge and the Dover White Cliffs Christmas festival. Winchester Cathedral also hosts a fabulous Christmas market and ice skating. Other offerings across the UK include St Andrews Square ice rink in Edinburgh and the Pier Head Ice Festival on Liverpool Waterfront. However, for something a little different, don’t miss the Cardiff Winter Wonderland rink with a 250m alpine ice trail to brave.

London’s Festive Gems

If you’re a skating fanatic, one of the best places to find a treasure trove of ice rinks is London. At Christmas time, there are many outdoor skating rinks at top venues, such as Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, the Natural history Museum, the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and Somerset House. These are excellent choices if not everyone in your group is going to hop on the ice, as they can relax in a beautiful setting and enjoy the view. For a truly unique experience, try the rooftop ice rink at Skylight in Tobacco Dock.

All Year Round Ice Rinks

While winter ice rinks are fun, ice skating is something which can be enjoyed whatever the month. That’s where indoor rinks come in handy, meaning you can plan a group trip during spring and summer too; ideal if you’re looking for places to cool down. Some of the best arenas may also be home to some of the UK’s ice hockey teams too, so keep an eye out for upcoming fixtures if you want to avoid disappointment (if ice skating), or you’d like to see a match. Popular ice rinks open all year round include Streatham Ice Centre, Alexandra Palace Ice Rink and Queen Ice and Bowl in Bayswater.

Travel by Coach

If you’re planning a group trip or a large-scale transfer, one of the easiest and most convenient ways to go is by coach or minibus. You’ll avoid the hassle of public transport or car parking, while travelling together, so there’s no waiting around for delayed group members. You can relax on your journey there and back knowing everything has been taken care of.
