Visit Whitstable in Kent by coach

If you love to explore but hate big crowds, being a tourist is tricky in many parts of the UK. Head to the south of England though and you’ll find a whole host of peaceful, serene and accessible places, all waiting to be discovered on your own terms. Better still, arrive there by coach and you’ll feel as refreshed as when you did when you stepped out of the door that morning.

So what can the south of England offer? The sky is the limit. Whether you want to get back to nature, learn local history or see places only known to the locals, travelling by coach is the ideal way to get around.

Delightful Destinations

Mayday Travel has excursions to all kinds of destinations in the south of England, from shopping centres to stately homes. But the real gems are the hidden secrets of our southern counties.

Take Kent, for example. It’s a county stuffed to the brim with places of beauty you’ll want to visit. When you visit by coach, you’ll never be overwhelmed by huge amounts of visitors, and that will give you more time to explore. Hawking, rail museums and coastal walks, take a stroll through Whitstable or even the famous White Cliffs – are all within your grasp.

Canterbury is a place full of history, architectural icons and events and attractions for all the family. You can see a new side of the city by taking a guided tour of the local waterways. Glide along the River Stour in small groups to see the nature of the area, together with beautiful riverside buildings.

If nature is your thing, head for the Riverhill Himalayan Gardens near Sevenoaks. It’s renowned for fields of bluebells in spring, rare and ancient trees and breathtaking views towards the Weald of Kent. The Walled Garden, renovated in recent years, resembles the terraces of the Himalayas. There’s a fantastic adventure play area for children, too.

Book a seat on a coach heading to Dorset and you’ll have the chance to be taken back in time. We love Tyneham Village; the residents left in WW2 when the army commandeered the whole place, and nobody returned when peacetime came. You’ll also love the magical Winspit near Worth Matravers, and Swanage which is a disused quarry but now is home to a place for walkers and climbers as well as those wanting to relax on the adjoining beach.

Nature lovers can enjoy quiet bird watching at the RSPB site in the village of Arne. Take in spectacular views of the harbour, watch for different visiting birds or enjoy the peace and quiet.
