Constable Country – Tuesday 9th July 2019

New four 2019. Join us on a visit to Constable Country. Accompanied by our Blue Badge Guide, we will drive to Dedham which is the heart of Constable country where Constable went to school. It has a very attractive High Street with independent shops, and the fine church of St. Mary’s, built by wealthy Medieval wool merchants. We will then make the short journey to East Bergholt. This is where Constable was born and where The church of St. Mary the Virgin has the famous bell Cage in it’s church yard, along with the graves of John Constable’s parents and Willy Lott. We will then drive to Flatford Mill. This is Owned by the National Trust, and here you can visit Willy Lott’s house, little changed since Constable painted the iconic HayWain. There is a small museum in Bridge Cottage, plus a National Trust shop and tea room.
