Bodium Castle – Wednesday 14th August 2019

New for 2019. Come and visit Bodium Castle, which is a 14th century moated castle near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. It was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight, ostensibly to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years’ War. The castle is a quadrangular plan, and interestingly it has no keep, having its various chambers built around the outer defensive walls and inner courts. Its corners and entrance are marked by towers, and topped by crenellations. The castle sits in an artificial watery landscape which indicates that the display was an important aspect of the castle’s design as well as defence. You will have time to explore this wonderful castle and to wander round and enjoy the stunning scenery
