Forget what you think you know about coach travel

Most of us had to endure uncomfortable, lengthy coach trips in our youth, and these experiences often stay with us well into adulthood. Coach travel became popular in the 1960s, when coaches were incredibly basic compared to today’s luxury vehicles. If you had to endure daily school journeys or school trips via coach, they may not bring back the best memories.

We’re here to dispel some of the myths about coach travel, so let’s look at 5 common misconceptions our customers have.

1 Coaches are NOT smelly

This misconception comes from the olden days of poorly equipped restrooms on coaches. On long journeys, the facilities were not able to cope with demand, and the legacy of these unpleasant experiences are a rather pungent memory for some.

Today’s modern coaches have fully equipped restrooms that are thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. Toilets have full flushing mechanisms, basins are sparkling clean, and we ensure a plentiful supply of tissues and soap.

2 Coach seats are NOT uncomfortable

If you travelled by coach in the 60s and 70s, you might have had a rather bouncy ride. Poor seats, itchy fabrics and fixed positions meant you had to endure uncomfortable conditions in some cases.

Mayday Travel’s luxury coaches have seats with a reclining seat back, so you can catch a nap, or simply rest your eyes for a while. Additionally, all of our coach seats are fitted with seat belts – an essential safety feature that keeps you comfortable and safe.

3 Coach seats are NOT cramped

If you’ve travelled regularly by air, you’ll be aware how close the seating is, and how it can become frustrating when there isn’t enough legroom. Coaches have gained a similar reputation because of old-fashioned design.

Our coaches offer enough space for two people to sit comfortably side by side, and they also provide the legroom you need to enjoy the ride. If you have bags or luggage, stow them in the ample storage space under the coach so that you don’t have to tuck them in around your feet.

4 Coaches are NOT hot and stuffy

Hot, stuffy coaches are one of the main memories we have of school trips. A coach that is too warm leads to an unpleasant journey and can make some passengers feel nauseous.

That’s why all our coaches are air conditioned and kept at a constant temperature. We use thermostatically controlled heating systems, and personal controls for each seat.

5 Coaches are NOT just for the elderly

Low-cost coach transport is a great way to see the UK and Europe. We welcome a huge number of seniors onto our coaches every year. But coach travel is for everyone, and we’re proud to serve a huge section of the community here in London.

From sports trips to wedding parties, festival weekends to business conferences, each coach trip attracts a different demographic – and everyone is truly welcome.
