In our opinion, a holiday starts way before you reach your destination. In fact, as soon as you start planning your adventure, you’ll find yourself getting little bursts of that ‘holiday feeling’ – having that exciting trip to look forward to makes day-to-day life that little bit more manageable.
And, we think that an important component to a successful holiday is the transportation. If you’re planning on crossing the UK border by coach then you want to ensure that it’s going to be a stress-free journey – to help make that a reality (and to give you that holiday planning buzz that we know and love), we’ve put together a handy guide to what you need to know before you board.
What are the essentials?
First things first – what do you need to have with you on the day? Whether you’re getting the ferry to De Panne to enjoy a day at the seaside or you’re heading to Bruges via the Eurotunnel to sample some of the world’s most famous chocolate, you’ll need your passport for Border Control to inspect. If you’re a non-EU/European Economic Area national then you’ll need to ensure you have the correct visa and will have to complete a landing card before arriving at border control.
I’m with a school group – what do I need to know?
If you’re leading a school group then make sure your pupils are ready to get off the coach, they each have their passports or travel documents, you let passport control know that you’re the leader of the group, and the students leave their belongings on the coach. It’s also worth having a quick chat with your (we imagine) excitable group before you travel – make sure they know how important it is to let their driver concentrate for a smooth journey and to respect that there might be rules about food and drink. Other than that, you just need to make sure that you’ve got a good few travel games under your belt!
Who should I make the crossing with?
If you’ve never travelled across the UK border via coach before, you will be even more conscious than the average traveller of picking the right travel provider. Pick a company that has decades of experience under its belt, highly qualified drivers who truly know the roads and that has an excellent reputation in the industry. When your coach provider is well known and trusted, as Mayday Travel is, there’s no need for you to be worried about your journey across the border.
We really do love holiday preparation and we know at Mayday Travel that we can help you have the best possible start to your break, whether you’re going away for a week or the day. To find out more about travelling the UK and Europe by coach, contact the helpful team at Mayday Travel today.
