Coach trips to take this ChristmasThere’s a lot to love about winter in the UK – crisp mornings, walking in fresh snow and, of course, Christmas! As the long nights draw in, though, many of us can start to suffer with winter blues, as the bright, warm summer days seem so far away. There’s no better way to cheer yourself up than to hop on a coach and experience the winter months in a new light. Getting out and exploring doesn’t have to be limited to the warm weather – there are plenty of amazing things to see and do (both in the UK and Europe) during the winter!

Here are five of our favourite winter destinations for festive-spirited coach travellers looking for a slightly different day trip.

Bruges, Belgium

There’s nowhere more delightful at Christmas than Bruges. The city’s cobbled streets, medieval buildings and canals look absolutely stunning when set against the endless Christmas lights that sparkle gold and silver across the cityscape. The Bruges Christmas market is a particularly magical highlight – complete with horse-drawn carriages, a glittering ice rink and indulgent food stalls – and can easily be slotted into a coach day trip from London.

Winchester, UK

You don’t need to travel to Europe to get a good dose of wintery fairy-tale charm: the cathedral city of Winchester (the self-proclaimed ‘Christmas capital’) has it all. From ice rinks and pantomimes to a Santa’s grotto and a traditional Christmas market, the ‘olde worlde’ streets of the medieval city is the perfect place to enjoy the wonders of winter.

Copenhagen, Denmark

The Danes are well known for their vibrant Christmas traditions – e.g. the advent wreath, the calendar candle and the Danish Christmas seals (specially designed stamps that are used on presents and cards) and, in November and December, Copenhagen is beautifully transformed into a winter wonderland. The capital’s buildings glisten with fairy lights, and locals indulge in sweets, music and festive activities at the Tivoli Gardens Christmas market.

See London this Christmas by coachLondon, UK

If you want to stay closer to home, London is bursting with things to do at Christmas. While Regent Street and Oxford Street are famed for their Christmas lights, Covent Garden is the perfect place to shop for gifts, and the Southbank Christmas market is another must-see. You can also visit Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, which has brightly lit rides, ice-skating, stalls with traditional Christmas gifts and a Bavarian village for you to enjoy.

Christmas is a great time to take a trip to one of Austria’s incredible ski resorts. By day, you can perfect your moves in the pure-white snow, and soak up the spectacular mountainous scenery; by night, you can curl up in front of a roaring fire in your log cabin, with good food and cheery company. You can’t get more festive than that.

Here at Mayday Travel, we offer a range of day trips that are perfect for the winter months, and can also provide transport for your ski trip. Contact us today to find out more.
